Business Insurance

Farm equipment insurance for machinery.

Modern agricultural machinery costs more than most of the buildings it sits beside. It should be insured accordingly.

Farm machinery is high-value, mobile and frequently used away from the property. Equipment cover follows it — in the field, in transit on a trailer, and while doing custom work on someone else's land — which a general property policy does not.

Valuation, transit and hired-in machinery

Replacement cost and actual cash value produce very different outcomes on older equipment, and the difference on a tractor is measured in tens of thousands. Decide the basis deliberately rather than accepting the default.

Machinery hired in for harvest is usually your responsibility under the rental agreement, often for full value plus loss of rental income. That needs a limit that reflects the machine you are hiring, not the ones you own.

Working with us

What we do differently

We are an independent agency, so we place your farm equipment insurance across several carriers rather than fitting you to one company's product. That means a genuine comparison, and someone to call who is not a call centre.

  • Choose replacement cost or actual cash value deliberately on older machinery
  • Insure hired-in equipment for value plus loss of rental income
  • Confirm cover extends to custom work performed off your own land

Common questions

Farm Equipment Insurance, answered

Is my equipment covered away from the farm?

Farm equipment cover generally follows machinery off the premises, including in transit. Confirm it if you regularly do custom work on land you do not own.

Should I insure at replacement cost?

On newer machinery usually yes. On older equipment the premium difference against actual cash value is worth weighing, but decide it deliberately rather than by default.

Is rented harvest equipment covered?

Under hired-in equipment cover, yes, but check the limit against the machine's value. Rental agreements typically make you liable for full replacement plus lost rental income.
