Business Insurance

Limousine insurance for livery and car service.

Carrying paying passengers changes the vehicle from personal transport into a public conveyance, and the required limits change with it.

Limousine, livery and black car operators carry passengers for hire, which places them in a different regulatory and insurance category from private drivers. Passenger liability is the core exposure, and required limits are typically far above a personal auto policy.

Passenger liability, limits and venue requirements

Vehicles carrying passengers for hire are rated on seating capacity and operating radius, and municipal or airport permits frequently specify minimum limits well above the state auto minimum.

Corporate accounts, hotels and event venues commonly require certificates naming them, and some specify limits of their own. Arranging cover that satisfies the accounts you want is easier than retrofitting it after winning one.

Working with us

What we do differently

We are an independent agency, so we place your limousine insurance across several carriers rather than fitting you to one company's product. That means a genuine comparison, and someone to call who is not a call centre.

  • Check the limits your airport and municipal permits actually require
  • Run driver MVRs regularly — they drive both rate and eligibility
  • Arrange certificates for corporate and venue accounts in advance

Common questions

Limousine Insurance, answered

Can I use a personal auto policy for livery work?

No. Carrying passengers for hire is excluded from personal auto policies, and a claim arising from paid transport would be declined. Commercial livery cover is required.

What limits do I need?

Higher than the Texas auto minimum. Municipal and airport permits usually specify their own figures, and corporate accounts often require more again.

Does driver history matter?

Considerably. Motor vehicle records drive both rating and whether a carrier will write the risk, so an annual MVR review is worth building into your process.
